Lifesaving charity MedicAlert use Lego animation to capture Kids' attention!

The MedicAlert Foundation today, 14th June, released their first educational short film to educate children about the lifesaving MedicAlert service. This new film is available on Youtube and features Lego characters demonstrating how the MedicAlert service works in stop-motion animation which is a very new and exciting marketing direction for the charity.

The film tells the story of a young boy named Charlie, a MedicAlert member with Diabetes, and demonstrates how MedicAlert assists him in an emergency situation. It was launched today to mark the start of Diabetes Week in the UK as over 50,000 MedicAlert UK members have diabetes making it an important week for many members.

As a charity, cost saving is of the utmost importance and luckily two of MedicAlert's on-staff jewellers are highly creative and were able to create this film using the software already used for photographing the emblems. The  film is available to view now on the MedicAlert Youtube Channel www.youtube.com/medicalertuk.

MedicAlert hopes to continue to make educational films in the future to demonstrate to the public and particularly children and teenagers how necessary MedicAlert medical identification is for those with hidden medical conditions and allergies.

MedicAlert have recently ventured into online marketing and are planning to become very active on Twitter, Facebook and youtube.

Chris Lunn, Head of Communications says:

‘Online Marketing provides huge value for small charities like MedicAlert. For very little cost we can now spread our message to a massive number of people which is fantastic! Through our new social media profiles we have started interacting with our younger members who we had not heard from previously. We hope with films like this Lego animation we can help to educate young people about the importance of protecting themselves if they have hidden medical conditions or allergies.'

The Lego ® Group were approached and they were happy to give their permission for the filming as it is for educational purposes only. The film is available to view on Youtube and also available to download as a teaching resource at http://www.medicalert.org.uk/pages/resources.html. MedicAlert's Education and Policy Officer is available to speak to school groups on request.
